RATEPAYERS FORUM 2024

RATEPAYERS FORUM 2024

With the local Government elections on Saturday March 16 2024 the Douglas Shire Rate Payers Association (DSRA) present the candidates who accepted an invitation to speak to the people at their forum held at the Oaks Resort Port Douglas. The forum was also history making, being broadcast on 101.5 Douglas FM for the very first time. The candidates speaking directly to you are in the order presented at the forum and all get equal time.  Unfortunately, there is no audio for Michael Joseph Rees as he was unable to attend.

The forum's primary objective, as outlined by President John Sullivan, is to provide a platform for candidates, particularly newcomers, to articulate their understanding of key issues facing the Shire and outline their goals. "That's the biggest thing, what are their priorities? It's important we get to know each candidate; otherwise, it's an election of blind faith, and that doesn't serve the democratic process at all”.
